On Saturday, May 14th in the Waynflete Hall, Magdalen College School, I held a concert for my students and their families. It had been some time since the last concert and it was a pleasure to see and hear everyone playing and singing so well. Many people played solo items - a very nerve-wracking experience! Also there were some excellent group items including 'Sweet Child of Mine' with singing from Katy Jackson and a guitar solo from Ed Gallyot, a memorable performance of 'Sultans of Swing' by Jack Griffiths and Jonathan Riley's solo in '21 Guns'. These are just a few examples of the excellent standards achieved by all students.
Also I put together a group of 7 girl singers to perform a set of classic pop songs in close harmony. Their set included, 'California Dreamin', 'Will You Still Love Me Tomorrow?' and 'Lollipop'. The sound they made was excellent and I hope we'll be able to do it again.
Many, many thanks for all the efforts of the students that night. I'd particularly like to thanks Merle Joyce on drums and Ben Hampshire on bass who provided excellent backing to a very wide range of musical items. There were many highlights and I think everyone went home feeling that they had been very well-entertained.
I am hoping to do another concert in late May/early June 2012 so watch out for announcements!
